Have you got to the point where all of a sudden, your mother’s words are ringing true in your ears and you really wish you had started to take care of your skin sooner? Join the club.
The good news is, it’s not too late to make a difference and help your skin go down the right path. A few changes will make a massive difference when applied religiously.
What are they, we hear you cry? Here are a few things you can do to keep your skin looking youthful!
Exfoliate
Your skin cells are constantly renewing, meaning dead skin cells are left on the top layer of your complexion. This process slows as you age. Dead skin cells make your skin appear dull, rough and uneven. To eliminate these dead skin cells from your complexion, you need to exfoliate. Effective exfoliation will help your skin to appear brighter, smoother and younger. To exfoliate, it’s best to use a chemical exfoliator or try a professional treatment. Incorporating a chemical exfoliator like glycolic acid into your routine will gently slough off dead skin cells to refine the skin’s surface. Alternatively, you may wish to try a more effective method of exfoliation like microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion can remove up to three times the number of dead skin cells than other treatments. Furthermore, blood flow is stimulated to encourage the production of elastin and collagen – two substances that help to plump and firm the skin.
Hydrate
Hydrating Moisturiser is essential at any age and on every skin type but as you are getting older becomes ever more important to keep skin hyrdated. Even oily and combination skin types can benefit from moisturiser. For ageing skin, use a moisturiser with retinol as this type of vitamin A helps skin cell renewal. Furthermore, regular hydration helps to nourish, smooth and soften the skin for a luminous and healthy complexion. Don’t forget hydration happens from the inside too, drink plenty of water to keep your cells hydrated.
